Committee Reports

TWB Report: Dave Collins presented current incentives for the holiday season noting some retailers have increased the percentages donated back to PTF and also PTF will increase portion toward tuition on gift cards purchased between Nov. 12 and end of the calendar year. A flyer explaining the program and the goals of TWB will be distributed at mass along with an order form. It was noted that TWB has $300 of J. Bucks gift cards in stock which may need to be used by the end of the calendar year due to a change in ownership of J. Bucks restaurants. He also stated that TWB is on track to reach our $6,000 goal.

Family Fun Nights: Carol Schanuel announced that the skating party at Fun Spot raised nearly $300 for the science program. PTF is communicating with Mrs. Waldron regarding specific items to purchase and allocating some of the monies to the lower grades for science projects.

PTF is planning a movie night at the new parish center in January possibly at the end of Catholic Schools Week. It was suggested that the Student Council may want to sell movie concessions at this event.

Spirit Wear Report: Gina presented results of the first spirit wear order. A second order form went out in the last brown envelope. No new items for the holiday season were added to this form. There was some discussion about limiting the number of items offered and the group decided to select one or two new items specifically for the holiday season. It was decided to research logo blankets and flannel pants and send a special order for the holidays.

Old Business

Field Day: As noted at the last meeting and in the Teachers’ Report, the teachers have requested that the PTF take over the Spring Field Day event for the students. Motion was made and seconded to vote on this proposal. All present voted unanimously to accept responsibility for this event. It was noted that the current Field Day committee chaired by Joni Jones was created to serve the lunch that day and we are hoping that Joni Jones will continue to head up this committee and serve the lunch. Mrs. Chaput discussed the basic structure of the day as it has been for the last several years and volunteered to help with the transition as a resource for the new chairperson / committee. Mrs. Chaput will provide a folder of information from last year’s event to the PTF for use in planning this year’s event. It was noted that the specific events and structure of the day could change and that this transition year would be a good time to make changes. Mr. Hodapp suggested that placement ribbons or medals not be a part of the program as the main intent of this day is to foster cooperation rather than competition. It was noted that each team typically includes students from each grade level and that the students really enjoy this. Mrs. Chaput also suggested that we make a plan in case of rain. PTF will begin assembling a committee for planning this event with the basic time frame / schedule as follows: approximately 8 – 10 teams with members from each class and a teacher as captain will rotate between activities. One activity may include a snack. Lunch will be served at the end of the event and students will be dismissed early from the Park.

Other Items for Discussion: • Angie Miller discussed her role as Chairperson of Toys for Tots for the Freeburg Optimist Club noting that St. Joe’s will accept donations during the first week of December and after that all items would be delivered through the food and clothing bank at St. Paul’s. • Carol Schanuel requested that classes planning to send letters or cards to IRAQ consider sending these to a local soldier that she knows.

Meeting Adjourned: by Sheila Elser at 7:15 pm.
